Weight Watchers...starting again

You know, reality checks are just no fun!  I visited my NEW doctor today.  My very first visit with him and I gave him a run down of everything I have tried in the past and as I did, he was checking off his mental list.  Since I pretty much have done everything he was going to suggest and have already taken the medication he was going to suggest for my Type II diabetes, we decided to just go back to square one.

I was telling a lady at church today that I had low blood sugar as a child.  I had to constantly eat small, healthy, protein packed snacks in order to keep my blood sugars stable so that I wouldn't feel bad or have some sort of split personality.  The conversation came up when she was discribing her sons symptoms.  The story sounded familiar.  Now, as an adult that has been over my ideal weight since my first year in college, who has had three children and who loves to eat, I have Type II diabetes.

A little while back I posted about how excited I was to start WW online.  I was thrilled and then shortly after, on April 27th a tornado touched down in my hometown.  I have been neck deep in recovery efforts since and I have not even opened my WW online.  I am so ashamed.  I thought I was trying to eat okay, I'd lost 5 pouds but I was startled today by my A1C

So, here we go.  I'm settling down into my normal life.  Kids are home from school for the summer, I'm still job hunting and I'm starting another round of graduate courses this summer.  I'll be speeding through 2 full time courses in a fraction of the actual time.  I'm praying daily for widsom and strength.   In the mean time, me and my WW online are going to get to know one another AND I was told I needed to sign up for a 5K to benefit my community, Run for Ringgold.  It'll take place July 25th.  {SCREAM}  Okay, I'll do it!  I will, start training ASAP to get my agility up to par and I'm asking for your support!  Please!

Remember when I suggested that we work together to hold each other accountable here.   Anyone have any suggestions how we can do that?  What would be a good way for us to hold each other accountable?  I'm terrible with commitments so if someone would like to participate in helping me, please raise your hand.  (Then shoot me an e-mail to let me know you did.)

P.S. Whew!  I was relieved to find out out it was June 25th, not July 25th.  Hardy Har Har!  I won't be doing that one!

  1. Have you heard of the Couch to 5k running plan?  http://www.c25k.com/  I know you don't quite have 9 weeks, but maybe it would be a good place to start?  The run could be your midway point!  I am planning to start it ASAP, I had surgery 3 weeks ago so I'm just waiting for the OK from the doctor.

  2. I love that program.  That's the one I started in January.  I took me longer than 9 weeks but I have been able to run a 5k.  I made really good time  once or twice too.

  4. I will be praying for you and working on my own habits as well.  I am fit but you can always improve and I want my children to know quinoa, brussel sprouts, and natural sweeteners instead of white sugar.  I want them to LIKE hummus and carrots etc..  I just did a post on healthy yummy snacks with some recipes.  It is a good go to list for ideas.  http://apronsandapples.blogspot.com/2011/06/wellness-wednesday-healthy-snack-ideas.html and there are lots of food ieas as well if you look around teh blog.  i am really trying to get into super healthy foods we really LIKE.  I love to eat so I don't want to eat plain salads with no dressing! I want YUMMY and healthy.  Good luck you can do it!!

  5. I'm with ya! I've found a pay-as-you-go gym 3 miles from my house, and I'll be starting WW online as well. My big FOUR-OH is the middle of next month..I have to wait for my b'day $$ to sign up, but you can bet I'll be standing in line at the bank the day the checks arrive! :-)

You...WE...can do this!! I'd love to be/have an accountability partner, but I'm not sure how to do that either... If you come up with something, PLEASE let me know!

  6. No we were fine but a relatives home was destroyed.  A friend of mine and her little family had moved 3 weeks before the tornado away from the hardest hit area.  She had 7 neighbors die.  If they had stayed they probably would not have survived.  The house they moved from is gone, not a trace of it.  Just a concrete slab.  God has special plans for them.  The hurt and heartache others have is what is hard to witness.

  8. Have you heard of Setting Captives Free?  This website has a free 60 day bible study to help you learn to take care of your body in obedience to God.  It was an amazing experience for me.  They are big on accountability, my friend and I emailed every day to say if we ate appropriately (course will help to define that), if we exercised, and if we were spending time in God's Word.  It is called Lord's Table, I highly recommend it!

  9. I started WW about 18 months ago.  Finally hit my goal right before Christmas, and have become a lifetime member and now am working for WW.  I have to go to the meetings, I just can't do it on my own.  Maybe if you just did a post once a week about your progress, that might help too.  It really is amazing how much support from people who are on the same path helps.  Best of luck in your journey.  You can do it!!!

  11. It's amazing, all the things we set up for ourselves to do as wives and moms. So hard to figure out how to do it all! I'm trying to lose baby weight, enjoy my four kiddos, find time to be a writer, and somehow blog, too. Best wishes on your journey.
