I tried Zumba

and LOVED it!

I'm so glad that I have been working out before hand though because I don't think I would have been able to keep up their pace if I hadn't started working out a few months ago.  I haven't lost any weight and I've been trying to run my patootie off.  Plus, I've been doing weights and I know, I know I've gained muscle.  I can see I have in my leaner places.  I just feel like a girl my size, with so much to lose should be losing already.   I do feel stronger and yesterday on the treadmill I felt like I could fly at one point.  I just feel like I have got to step it up.  I mean I need something to do on the days I'm not running and ZUMBA felt good.  Here's the one thing I've got to work on...

my rhythm.

because, apparently...I have none.  I didn't realize I was so uncoordinated.  Either I haven't danced in front of my friends in awhile so they could let me in on the obvious or I just haven't danced in so long and have forgotten how.    I mean I took like 3 different dance classes growing up, for years and still I feel like I can't get my arms to go to the beat while me feet are moving.  It felt impossible a few times and probably looked like the big girl was wearing down but I wasn't.  Actually, even though I was sweating like a cow, I wasn't out of breath at all.  I just didn't know how uncoordinated I was...I'm a little bit surprised.  All these years I thought I had the moves in me but those hip shakes and pelvis pumps just don't go with my natural footwork and arm movements.  Of course, this was my first time and so I'll just work on those hot moves in front of my bathroom mirror and hopefully in a few months I'll look more like I know what I'm doing.

Whew!  Now, I am going to go shower off... and pray I sleep better tonight 'cause that's another issue lately.

  1. I have heard nothing but good things about ZUMBA. One of these days I'll have to give it a try.

  2. I love Zumba. I do it at home with DVDs. But as a Caucasian chick, I certianly think that our rhythm and our hip movements aren't quite on par with the instructors. And never will be lol. But it is fun trying.

  3. Hey A! I know what you mean about the running your tail off and not seeing results.....but it will come! Since i've been in town I've been going to a class at the Y on M-W-F @ 9:30. It is a great supplement to my running, but no rhythm needed! Think football camp - suicides, push-ups, squats, lots of ab work, etc... but all in 30 min!
