Old Things Need Fixin': A DIY Table (take2)

And the winner was "Paint it White!"  So I did.  I drug the old table out and started painting it as soon as it was warm enough out side.  We still had snow on the ground but it was the perfect temp outside for me!

I'm not a good painter and I'm not patient at ALL.  So, I took the old antique-it approach.  I know, I know, it was already an antique but because you can tell when I spray paint something that it has been spray painted, I have to hide my mistakes.  To do that, I got out my sand paper.  Easy enough!

So this was transformed into this...

After every light coat of paint I sanded with a 100 grit sandpaper.  On my final coat of paint, I used a 220 grit sandpaper and then sprayed a clear coat over the entire table.  This project took most of the day but for me that's better than days and days.

P.S. In response to a question about the wall plaque.  The making of that piece is here.

  1. I am IN LOVE!! I've been talking about painting our kitchen table, but was thinking black...not anymore. It looks fabulous, especially with the black and white chair cushions.

  2. I have been nervously contemplating painting our handmade pine table to fit better with our new place. The table was our first "big" purchase as a newly married couple - 17 years ago. I painted our chairs black a few years ago and now that I see this table...I am not so nervous about painting our table too. YAY!! Thanks for the inspiration!

  3. Oh my, that looks so good! But I'm curious where you got the cute coffee (tea) cup chalkboard with the verse on the wall. Did you make it or buy it? I love it!

  5. We had a table JUST LIKE THIS when we first got married. We each broke a pinky toe on it.  The legs were actually a little past the top.
