Last night I had a light night date with one of my besties.
Picture this, two moms in minivans pull up to Taco Bell at 10:30 at night after a Scentsy Party. It's the only place in town that is still open because all the old hangouts are still "Closed Due to Tornado". The Taco Bell doesn't have coffee, they have the next best thing, Diet Mt. Dew! Whoo HOO! We go into Taco Bell order drinks and the only real dessert they have Caramel Apple Empanada. It's my last treat for awhile. It was really good. We find a corner booth and after awhile we realize that Taco Bell in Ringgold, GA is one rockin' place at midnight. During our much needed long talks we agreed that in 6 weeks we will both be able to run a 5k.
This is not the first time I have started training for a 5k but this is the first time I have a friend on board. In our 104 degree heat in Georgia it will have to be the treadmill or "dreadmill" as some call it. I've put all my favorite songs on my iPod and I'm going to be tracking my progress with DailyMile so you can help me keep track too.
On top of that I have started hitting my Online Weight Watchers hot and heavy the last two weeks. It's paying off! I get too easily distracted by events in my life and quit to easily but here is what sparked this latest movement.
Now, picture this...I'm sitting on my couch in the middle of the afternoon this week. We stayed in from the heat. I popped in a Netflix movie "The Duchess" and sat down with my left over Chinese take out. As I was watching the movie, I briefly pondered over the fact that the movie was based on real people from a long time ago. Then it hit me...mortality. It a strange epiphany I looked down into my noodles and thought, will I live to see 2050? A bit of sadness washed over me because what I was doing right then on that couch was shortening my moments here on earth if God's plan was to let me live a full, natural life. If it is not that is okay but if I have some sort of control, free will over the care of my body, so that I might enjoy the world He allowed me to be apart of; then I am going to start fresh.

I've started running again too, I'm 6 weeks into my program. In just 8 short weeks I'll be running my first race...a 3 mile mud run in Wisconsin called the Warrior Dash. Oh yeah. When I commit, I commit big!

ReplyDeleteOf course you will do it. :) I'd join you in running, but I am more of a biking man. Still, I guess you just have to multiply the distance you run by ten and you will get my numbers per day :P Good luck in your endeavour!

So I just stumbled onto your site, and after reading this, I had to comment. I had that same epiphany not so long ago! Me and a group of friends are signed up to do a mud run (if you haven't heard of them, its a 5K with obstacles- fun!) in October. I am doing a program called couch to 5k and I LOVE IT!!! It's a 9 week program that really is meant to take you from a couch potato to a 5K runner. Good luck!!!
