Storms, there are more to come.

2 Corinthians 4:4
In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

The other day I was riding in the car with my Granny.  She said someone had asked her "If God is so good, why does He let storms come?"  My first thought was that person doesn't know God.

Don't we all have storms in our life?  Some are literal like the ones our area has had lately and some are simply devastation's of life.  The thing about storms is that there are usually scattered pieces of debris, a mess that has to be cleaned up, repairs that have to be done and a time of renewal.  Somethings can't be replaced and some can.  However, 2 Corinthians 4:4 warns us of the "god of this world".  Many of us have idols in our lives that we do not realize at first until there is a storm and their is loss.

Idols can be the material things we have, alcohol, drugs, money, food, etc.  Sometimes the storms of perfection are simply to just to make us aware of what is truly important.  Storms feel like a stumbling block in life.  In fact, our storms where meant to help us get back on our feet and gain a new perspective.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-22
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; ...

So, today as I pick up the broken pieces.  I will rejoice in what I do have, remembering that it all belongs to Him and should be used to glorify His name.  He is our provider and will provide our needs.   I will remember that the things of this life may be for our comfort and enjoyment here but we should seek comfort and joy in Him first.  I will turn my eyes to Him and be glad.

oh no....is this your yard? Are you all ok? Yes, indeed, storms do come whether in the sky, in our hearts, in our families. They come and we run to God who is our hope - now and forever!

  3. Yes it's our yard and our crushed table.  We weren't home.  I was driving kids to VBS and James was on his way home.  I'm sad about the table but it'll be like new with new glass soon.
