I ran 5k today at the gym.
I want to scream it loud and proud...I want to go back tomorrow and do it again! It hurt, it burned, I was slower than a herd of turtles stampeding. No, i was slower than a two legged coon dog on a Monday morning...slower than...
Honestly, if you count the first five minutes as a walking warm up that didn't get very far because I was adjusting my MP3 player, texting my husband and stopping to stretch...then I suppose maybe I didn't do too bad. I did try to run fast...fast for me with my short legs right now is 6mph which would = a 10 minute mile...lol yeah right. In short intervals it's only slightly painful.
What possessed me you ask? I kept hearing about the "Couch to 5k" program and really wanted to try it. It was inspiring to hear about other people I know giving it a try. So, I thought I would. No more excuses, God had given me the time to workout for my health and I decided that I was going to go for it and I
See, after I had my last baby I had made up my mind I was going to take up running, I'd run on my parents treadmill and by the time he was 4 months old, I had dropped 60 pounds from the time he was born. Then I had to have surgery, an appendectomy. Somehow in my mind I had connected my running to the horrible experience I had gone through with having my appendix removed while I has a 4 month old baby who had never even seen a bottle. Not fun for my Mom I'll tell you that. Another year or so later I gave it another go, after gaining 40 pounds, I worked out SO hard and wasn't losing a single pound...that's when I found out about underlying medical issues...PCOS, Type 2 Diabetes, poor pitiful Thyroid...need i go on. Now, many, many, many months...almost 2 years, I'm giving it another try. I'm down almost 20 pounds from my heaviest since my last major gain...yay, but I still have a LONG way to go.
So here goes...let's see what this skinny girl under all this fat can do.
P.S. Did I ever mention that I have had a reoccurring dream for years that I was trying to run from something and my legs just wouldn't move like I wanted them too. It's a weird thing to dream.
Congratulations! I'm training for a half marathon and want to tell everyone how much I ran after I'm done. So good job and keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteI loved your post... I have gained 100 lbs since having my kids, and I had an appendectomy when I was pregnant with my second (that's quite the miracle story actually - God is so good!)
ReplyDeleteI can't seem to get the motivation to run, I have always hated running and especially now that I'm twice as heavy. I could use a little borrowed strength for that one!
I am crazy about your blog! I googled "super hero mask pattern" and your blog came up first - I'm trying to make my son a Larry Boy costume (his hero from VeggieTales) - I will definitely be using the cape pattern, I still have to find a whole head mask like LB's...
Anyway, love your blog, I'm definitely going to be reading regularly!! :)
God bless you sister!!
Awesome job! I have yet to really re-embrace running since my daughter was born, and I definitely need to! Nothing makes me drop weight faster! Thanks for the reminder/inspiration!
ReplyDeleteGreat job A! So proud of you for taking the plunge! We are just starting Bridge to 10K, now that Couch to 5K is finished. Do'nt get caught up in the numbers on the scale. You will truly feel so much better even if those numbers don't scream it the way you think they should! :)
ReplyDeleteYOu have know idea how happy it makes me to see you so happy!!! I Love it!! There is a skinny girl inside of me as well!!!
ReplyDeleteI think so many moms can relate to what you have described. We all remember the pre-baby bodies that may not have been perfect but I know I would have mine back in a heartbeat if I could!!!I too have spent the last year trying to build a little exercise into my week. It can be so hard especially when there is laundry and floors screaming out too. I lost 20 pounds slowly and feel so much happier for it. I'd still like to lose just a little bit more but I am grateful for being healthier now than I was a year ago. I hope you keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing your story with us.
