There is nothing so sweet as to hear a child say a prayer. My boys love to say grace, from the biggest to the littlest, they love to take their turn. When they say grace, they not only thank God and ask Him to bless the food but at times they are specific (e.g. "Thank you God for my pickle.") And sometimes, it is silent for a few seconds and we simple hear an "Amen". Either way, we feel like our goal of having them understand prayer is being met. They are talking to God, our Creator and thanking him for the blessings he rains down upon them....but we are falling short.
Isaiah 54:13 says " And all thy children will be taught by the Lord..."
In reflection of the scripture, this does not mean that we are leaving it all up to Him and are not willing to put forth our effort. As a matter of fact, God is calling my husband and I to do more. Recently, through the power of suggestion from friends, radio messages, church sermons, conversations with the children, etc., God has been putting it on our hearts to actually spend time in His Word with our children. We are still unsure as to how we are going to go about it and where it is going to fit in our day but it will happen.
What does it mean that are children are going to be "taught by the Lord"? I'm sure to whom ever reads the scripture they can not argue that we, as parents, are simply a vessel for Him to use. When we keep Him in our hearts, minds and spirit; our Lord illuminates our view of the world so that we can teach. In doing so, we also illuminate others view of the world, even our children.s The Bible instructs us to speak of Him, give thanks to Him and teach about Him during the course of our day. Just because our days are hectic, does not mean we can not do more to teach our children about his mercy and grace, His gifts and blessings, His answered and unanswered prayers.
Deuteronomy 6:6-9 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates.
It has become more important than ever that parents step up and stand with God in teaching their children God's Word. Our world is bombarding our children with music, movies, video games, books, etc., that decreases their sensitivity to the evil that is lurking in our world today. The less sensitive they become to it, the less likely they are to recognize the things that God would not approve of. If we, as parents, spend more time with God then He will remove the scales from our eyes so that we can clearly see what is not pleasing to Him. In order to teach our children, we must start walking with God daily and asking Him to use us in order for our children to learn about His Word.
Please share, what do you do at home to teach your children about God's Word and the teachings of Christ?

We read the scriptures in the morning before everyone leaves, pray over our meals, and as a family before we got to bed. My hope is that we are building a spiritual foundation with our children.
I was thinking of doing them at breakfast and at bedtime. But I don't know if I should invest in a devotional for families or children to get me started.
Hey I am still not able to see this post..dont know what is wrong with my computer. I wanted to let you know I have awarded your blog an award on my blog so come check it out!
I have one daughter who is now a sophomore in College and I have been blessed to see her choose to take her faith seriously.
All your intentions to bring God's Word to your children are wonderful and following His leading in how you do that is obviously wonderful, too. My suggestion would be that you be sure your own personal walk with the Lord is not left out and that you remain authentic before the Lord. Our children "see" so much and they are very good at seeing the inconsistencies in our lives. So I was not and am not a perfect parent and wife and I recently had to apologize for a bad example that I was setting but I know that has made a difference in my daughter's life which I praise God for.
